Hedcor signs supply deal with 6 cooperatives for hydro-plant

ABOITIZ Power Corp. announced its unit Hedcor, Inc. had closed a deal to supply power to six electric cooperatives in Mindanao from the 68.8-megawatt (MW) Manolo Fortich hydro-electric power facility it is building in Bukidnon.

“By signing up with Hedcor, [they] are giving their member-consumers the benefits of renewable energy as well as the benefits of a balanced mix of energy sources,” said Rolando G. Pacquiao, Hedcor vice-president for Mindanao operations, in a statement during the weekend.

The Bukidnon project will be serving Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperatives 1 and 2, Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative, Misamis Occidental I Electric Cooperative, and Siargao Electric Cooperative under renewable energy supply agreements (RESA).

Hedcor, the largest developer of a run-of-river hydropower plant in the country, is scheduled to complete the project by the third quarter. It has so far signed up a total of 23 MW of power with its existing customers.

“We hope other electric cooperatives will take advantage of renewable energy to add to their portfolio and the benefits of a RESA contract,” Mr. Pacquiao said.

Hedcor’s hydropower plants will produce 360 gigawatt-hour of clean and renewable energy yearly for the Mindanao grid, ensuring adequate power supply to meet the area’s rising demand.

“We are happy to have provided the electric cooperatives in Mindanao with the renewable energy option,” Mr. Pacquiao said.
